Supergoop! play SPF 50 everyday with sunflower extract sunscreen lotion

Quick Summary:

Date Tested: 6/27/2024

In this Supergoop! play SPF 50 everyday lotion review, I am somewhat disappointed with the results of this sunscreen. Thanks again to Julian for providing me this sunscreen to test!

If people ask me what brands of sunscreen I recommend, I tend to include Supergoop! as one of the top three. I still do, don’t get me wrong, but the last two sunscreen I have tested from them kind of leave me questioning what is going on in their labs. Supergoop! specializes in chemical based formulations, and while they are not as strong in their mineral only formulas, I assumed this product being chemical only would score much like all their other chemical formulas (really high). I ordered this straight from the Supergoop! website, so I know this is a legit and untampered with sample, yet the results were just bleh. The Supergoop play SPF 50 everyday lotion is a chemical based formulation using the active ingredients of Avobenzone at 3%, Homosalate at 10%, Octisalate at 5%, and Octocrylene at 7.5%.

The results from testing show the Supergoop play SPF 50 everyday lotion is not very good at blocking UVA by blocking only 68.22%, filtering UVB by 62.03%, and dropping total UVI by 68.77%. This is something a very low performing SPF 30 would score.

Supergoop play SPF 50 everyday with sunflower extract sunscreen lotion characteristics at a glance:

  • Sunflower Extract
  • Rosemary and Rice Bran Extracts
  • Natural Aromatic Extracts
  • Viscosity is very low.

Prepared slide BEFORE testing

The Supergoop play SPF 50 everyday has a very low viscosity. I prepared and tested two separate samples of this to make sure I did not make a mistake in my testing methodology. Both slides looked identical. I even tested a different part of the same slide to see if the results were better where there was a thicker layer of sunscreen. Was better, but still bad.

Testing notes:

Another formulation which I cannot recommend from Supergoop. I really hope this trend does not continue and Supergoop! fixes this formulation.

Unfortunately, I do not recommend this product.
