The Obagi Medical Sun Shield Matte SPF 50 lotion did an exceptional job blocking UVA by 99.93%, filtering UVB by 99.18%, and cutting down total UVI by 99.89%. It is a very high performing hybrid sunscreen formulation.

The Obagi Medical Sun Shield Matte SPF 50 has a high viscosity and seems a bit thick. This would explain the results in testing. Typically, the thicker a sunscreen formulation, the better the results.

Testing notes:
A very high performing sunscreen in testing, but this could be due to the thick nature of the formulation in between the slide and slide cover. Although I haven’t tried it myself, I could see this lotion not feeling very light on the skin.
