In this Neutrogena beach defense water + sun protection SPF 60+ sunscreen spray review, I test a high performing sunscreen from a brand I respect.

Has anyone been following the GME stock situation these past few weeks? I’m having a blast watching the stock price go all sorts of crazy. Roaring kitty apparently livestreams tomorrow, and I will definitely be tuning in to see what he thinks about everything. I mean, this is a guy who went from a 50k initial investment to now being worth a cool half billion dollars. Also, I believe one of my rabbits has a cold but isn’t in any mortal danger (I think). I also ate some chicken soup my wife made, and come to think of it, Ill probably bring this spray sunscreen with me to the lake next weekend. Obviously, this post is going every which direction…Just like how it is trying to test sunscreen sprays (because you know, the droplets flying everywhere). But more on that later. On to the data!

The Neutrogena beach defense water plus sun protection SPF 60+ sunscreen spray (thanks again for the sample Christi!) is a chemical based formulation using the UV filters of Avobenzone at 3%, Homosalate at 10%, Octisalate at 5%, and Octocrylene at 10% concentration. It was purchased from Costco, and it seems is not a typical SPF that is offered to the rest of the retail market by Neutrogena (as I cant find it listed on their web site).

The Neutrogena beach defense water plus sun protection SPF 60 spray did an excellent job of filtering UVA by 97.83%, blocking UVB by 95.73%, and lowering total UVI by 97.72%. I think spray sunscreen is much harder to get right, so this is wonderful protection!

Testing notes:

Testing a sunscreen spray is always a messy affair, as it’s hard to capture the little flying particles. The spray is wet, but also dry, and it gets all over. I essentially spray a large amount of the formula into a container and then proceed to obtain the same volume of the sunscreen as I do when testing a sample of lotion. Spray formulations are much more liquid however, and this can be tricky to work with. Anyways, enough blabbing on about the hardship of testing sunscreen.
