Eucerin Advanced Hydration SPF 50 sunscreen lotion

Quick Summary:

Date Tested: 7/15/2023

In this Eucerin Advanced Hydration SPF 50 sunscreen lotion review, I test a sunscreen product from a brand which it typically known for their ointments and skin remedies. Thanks Christi!

The Eucerin Advanced Hydration SPF 50 is a chemical based (organic) lotion which incorporates Avobenzone at 3%, Homosalate at 9%, Octisalate at 4.5%, and Octocrylene at 9% concentration. A pretty typical cocktail of UV filters, with high enough concentration which should ensure a wide spectrum of sun protection. Unfortunately, Eucerin still has their work cut out for them when creating sunscreen lotions.

Testing the Eucerin Advanced Hydration SPF 50 indicated the lotion blocked UVA by 69.43%, reduced UVB by 62.81%, and reduced total UVI by 69.06%. Pretty poor performance honestly.

Eucerin Advanced Hydration SPF 50 lotion characteristics at a glance:

  • Hyaluronic Acid and Humectants to attract and replenish skin’s natural moisture
  • Advanced Antioxidant Complex, 5 AOX Shield™, that goes beyond neutralizing to also guard from free radicals and help support skin health.
  • Viscosity is very runny – like a liquid rather than a lotion

Prepared slide ready for testing

The Eucerin Advanced Hydration SPF 50 is extremely runny. I would consider it a liquid rather than a lotion.

You can see where the magnetic vice pressure area (in the center of the slide) has left a thin layer of the sunscreen. This is an extreme case of thinness, I wouldn’t expect this sunscreen applied to the skin to provide a thick enough layer for good protection unless one lathered it on in excessive amounts.

Below are the results from 2 hours of testing in my UV testing station.

Testing notes:

While Eucerin is a brand name known for their skin remedies, one may need to wait a bit for them to perfect this particular sunscreen lotions efficacy. While I believe this product contains the right mixture of ingredients for a decent lotion, it is just too runny. With so many products on the market with better performance, I would skip this and find another product.

Rating: 2 out of 5.

Too runny. Advisable to do the same with this sunscreen.
