cle de peau BEAUTE (Shiseido) SPF 22 protective fortifying emulsion

Quick Summary:

Date Tested: 08/30/2022

In this cle de peau BEAUTE SPF 22 protective fortifying emulsion review, I test a moisturizer but with a SPF rating. This review will be pretty sparse because one, I cant even pronounce the name of the product and two, I don’t like the way the bottle looks. This super fancy (as in ~$40-$50 fancy) lightweight daily moisturizer seems to be produced by Shiseido (that’s what the label in the back of the bottle says), and is primarily a moisturizer but with UV protective properties. Makes sense to do that though. If I was to use a daily facial moisturizer I would want one with a SPF rating.

The cle de peau BEAUTE daily facial moisturizer is a chemical (organic) based formula which contains Avobenzone 2%, Octinoxate 4%, Octocrylene 5%, and Oxybenzone 2%. Is this primarily a moisturizer or a sunscreen? So many active ingredients!

The cle de peau BEAUTE SPF 22 protective fortifying emulsion reduced UVI by 71.68%, cut UVA by 72.38%, and blocked UVB by 59.91%. Although a little on the low side, protection is as good as one could expect from a SPF 22.

Prepared slide ready for testing

The cle de peau BEAUTE SPF 22 spread nice and evenly. The viscosity was slightly runnier as evidenced by more of the product accumulating at the outside edges of the slide cover once the sample was fully prepared. The resultant layer thickness appeared somewhat thinner as a result as well. Dispersion looked great.

Below are the results from 2 hours of testing in my UV testing station.

Testing notes:

My Gripes – I don’t really like the bottle design, I cant pronounce the name because I’m an American, it’s $20 out of my price range, and I like more ultraviolet blocking performance from any product I use.

My Praises – The bottle design is luxurious looking, the name is very high end, the price tag is quite reasonable for a high end product, and the sun protection is an added benefit since this is primarily a daily facial moisturizing lotion.

Rating: 3 out of 5.

As a sunscreen this protects like an SPF 22 would. As a daily moisturizer the added sun protection is a welcome feature.
