Black Girl Sunscreen SPF 30 moisturizing sunscreen lotion

Quick Summary:

Date Tested: 09/25/2022

In this Black Girl Sunscreen SPF 30 review, I test a decently performing SPF 30 sunscreen. I say decently, because it protects about as well as a typical SPF 30 should (about 75-85% protection). I do like my sunscreen to protect better than its rating however, so I am slightly biased in my recommendations. However, if you are looking for an SPF 30 then this is a good choice.

The Black Girl Sunscreen SPF 30 is a chemical (organic) based sunscreen which contains Avobenzone 3%, Homosalate 10%, Octisalate 5%, Octocrylene 2.75%. A typical cocktail of UV filters for broad spectrum protection.

The Black Girl Sunscreen SPF 30 reduced UVI by 81.65%, filtered UVA by 81.94%, and blocked UVB by 76.43%. UVB protection could be better, but is rather typical for an SPF30.

Testing notes:

This sunscreen tested as good as its rating. If you like the moisturizing benefits of the sunscreen it’s a decent choice, but besides that…the sun protection is pretty ordinary. The website states that the product is made by people of color, for people of color. But this product looks like every other sunscreen on the market as it is still a white colored lotion. Does it dry completely clear? I don’t know. The price point is a bit high too…

Rating: 3 out of 5.

Decent protection from an SPF 30, about what one could expect for the rating.
