Quick Summary:
Date Tested: 4/12/2025
In this My Blockskin Clear Coat Face SPF 50 sunscreen gel review, I find the only sunscreen I have ever tested to INCREASE UV exposure. WHAT THE F***!!! Thanks again go to Ruth for bringing this sunscreen to my attention!
Oh boy do I have something juicy to share with you today. In fact, I skipped the other sunscreen in the backlog to write about this absolute piece of crap snake oil sunscreen in the hopes that it may stop others from purchasing My Blockskin products (granted, I have not tested the entire list of products in his lineup, but if this product is any indication, you should stay very well away!).
The My Blockskin Clearcoat Face SPF 50 sunscreen gel is a chemical sunscreen formulation using the active ingredients of Polysilicone 15 at 3.5%, and Phenylbenzimidazol Sulfonic Acid at 3%. This is actually the first time I have come into contact with these two UV filters, and yes, while they are used in the industry to filter UV, they are only useful for blocking UVB. This sunscreen, despite being labeled “broad spectrum” definitely does not have any active ingredients to filter out the UVA spectrum.

Curiously, the sunscreen I ordered off the My Blockscreen website shows a tube like that listed in the post thumbnail (and the one currently on their website), however, the bottle I received was most definitely not labeled as such (I purchased this directly from them on 4/4/2025). Did I get an old version? I don’t believe so, as the expiration on the box says 2026/10/17. Suspiciously, on the tube and box I received, there is a UVA designation (which should really not even be there) without the UVB designation. Again, since this formulation does not contain any active filters designed to block UVA, this is very Jesus without the “Je.”

But now the most intriguing finding to discuss, the fact that this sunscreen actually increased the amount of detected UVA, UVB, and UVI…like wtf, how does a formulation even do that. I mean, yes refraction, and diffraction and all that…but I mean, you probably couldn’t get results like this if you tried to (or maybe you can, I don’t know, maybe its easy, I’ve never done it). I really think one would be better off just using olive oil (as in its unoxidized form can protect up to SPF 8). You may even be better off just sweating profusely, or walking backwards away from the sun, or maybe even breathing hard and creating a warm mist cloud in front of your face.
And don’t get me started on the cost. $19 for the product itself and 20.99 for SHIPPING!? I live in the United States, and this cost 20.99!? Fuh-get-about-it. What a piece of crap company, piece of crap product, and piece of crap job on labeling.
The My Blockskin Clear Coat Face SPF 50 sunscreen gel reduced -6.34% of UVA, -6.48% UVB, and -6.37% of total UVI. This sunscreen increased detected UV irradiance by ~6%!! WHAT SUNSCREEN DOES THAT!?

Testing notes:
OK, so did I get a completely different product than what I ordered? I have no idea, but the fact that the website does not even list its ingredients, and displays packaging which is inconsistent with the packaging on the product received, is enough reason to believe their products are likely not even FDA approved. Stay away from this company and founder.
If you are looking for an invisible gel product, I highly recommend trader joes invisible gel SPF 40 and the invisible products from Supergoop!
